Mussoorie, 10 May: In view of the increasing traffic congestion in Mussoorie due to the ongoing Char Dham Yatra and tourism season, the Mussoorie Police have launched a special checking drive under ‘Operation Prahar’ and taken strict action against traffic violators. During the campaign, the police issued challans to a total of 101 vehicles, while several vehicles were also seized. The primary objective of this campaign, conducted within the jurisdiction of the Mussoorie Kotwali, was to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and to curb road accidents. The police took action against vehicles parked illegally along roadsides, cars fitted with black window films, drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol, and other traffic violators. Among the actions taken by the police, the highest number—80 challans—were issued for ‘No Parking’ violations; these cases have been referred to the Court. Additionally, three drivers found using black window films were issued challans and fined Rs 1,500 each. Furthermore, one driver was issued a challan for dangerous driving. In a case involving driving under the influence of alcohol, one car was seized, while seven challans were issued for general traffic violations. Action was also initiated against three individuals under Section 81 of the Police Act.
During the campaign, six two-wheelers were also seized for violating traffic regulations. The police issued strict instructions to drivers to park their vehicles exclusively at designated parking areas. Mussoorie Kotwal (Station House Officer) Devendra Chauhan stated that vehicles parked along roadsides not only disrupt traffic flow but also contribute to road accidents. With traffic pressure continuously mounting during the Char Dham Yatra and tourism season, it is imperative for everyone to strictly adhere to traffic regulations. The Mussoorie Police have appealed to the general public and tourists to follow traffic rules and extend their cooperation to ensure that traffic management operates smoothly throughout the pilgrimage season.
