67,815 new students enrolled under school enrolment drive

Dehradun, 7 Apr: Under the auspices of the School Education Department, the ‘Praveshotsav’ (Enrolment Festival) was celebrated with great enthusiasm in secondary and primary schools as part of the ‘School Chalo Abhiyan’ (Back-to-School Campaign). During this special drive, a total of 67,815 new students from Class 1 to Class 12 were enrolled in government and private schools across the state. Newly admitted students were welcomed with flower garlands and were also provided free textbooks.
The State’s School Education Minister, Dr Dhan Singh Rawat, inaugurated the ‘Praveshotsav’ programme virtually as the Chief Guest. He encouraged the newly admitted students and directed departmental officials to ensure 100% enrolment.
According to officials of the School Education Department, on Tuesday, 67,815 students were enrolled across schools in the state under this initiative. Out of these, 24,381 students were enrolled at the primary level, 31,008 at the upper primary level, and 12,426 at the secondary level.
During the ‘Praveshotsav’ programmes organised in various schools, newly admitted students were warmly welcomed with garlands and given free textbooks.
On the occasion, Education Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat addressed newly admitted students virtually and encouraged them. He stated that the state government’s priority is to provide quality education to every child. In line with the National Education Policy 2020, efforts are being made to create an excellent academic environment in schools.
He added that along with basic facilities, schools are being digitalised and efforts are underway to fill the shortage of teachers through permanent appointments. He highlighted that providing free textbooks to all students at the beginning of the academic session is a major achievement of the government.
Dr Rawat directed departmental officials to ensure 100% enrolment under the ‘School Chalo Abhiyan’ so that no child is left out of education. He also appealed to teachers and education department staff to actively motivate parents through door-to-door outreach and ensure children are connected to schools.
He emphasised that positive change in the education sector is possible only through collective efforts and stated that the objective of the ‘Praveshotsav’ program is to bring more children into the education system and reduce dropout rates.
