933 participants join ‘Niti Extreme Ultra Run’

Chamoli, 31 May: The ‘Niti Extreme Ultra Run’ was inaugurated with great pomp on Sunday in the picturesque and strategically important Niti Valley of Chamoli district.
Organised by the Department of Tourism in collaboration with the Indian Army and the ITBP, this unique event has 933 participants from 28 states across the country. The three-day event aims to promote tourism in border areas, bring national recognition to local culture, and increase fitness awareness among youth.

District In-Charge Minister Bharat Singh Chaudhary inaugurated the programme by flagging off the rally. On this occasion, he stated that the state government is continuously working for the overall development and promotion of tourism in border areas. He added that, under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, this event has become a powerful medium to promote Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Fit India” campaign in border areas.
He said that expansion of tourism activities in border villages will provide new employment opportunities to the local people and the second line of defence villages will become stronger.
District Tourism Officer Arvind Gaur stated that the “Niti Extreme Ultra Run” will be held from 31 May to 2 June. On the first day, the Rimkhim-Niti-Malari 75-kilometre ultra run was held, with 117 participants. The Malari-Niti-Malari 42-kilometre ultra run attracted 118 participants.
He added that 5, 10, and 21-kilometre half marathon events will be held in the coming days. A 30-kilometre MTB Challenge competition will also be held between Gamsali and Malari at the closing ceremony.
Earlier, on Saturday night, the Tourism Department organised a cultural evening in Malari village. Folk singer Kishan Mahipal enthralled the audience with his popular folk songs. Participants and locals enthusiastically participated in the cultural programs until late into the night.
On this occasion, Minister of State with Independent Charge Harak Singh, District Panchayat Chairman Daulat Singh Bisht, BKTC Vice President Rishi Prasad Sati, BJP District President Gajpal Bartwal, General Secretary Arun Maithani, Vinod Kanwasi, Home Secretary Shailesh Bagoli, Tourism Secretary Dhiraj Garbyal, Chief Development Officer Dr Abhishek Tripathi, along with officers from various departments, officers and soldiers of the Indian Army and ITBP, public representatives and a large number of local people were present.
