Outsiders purchasing property in U’khand to submit declaration Friday, 27 September 2024 | my uttarakhand news |   DEHRADUN In a major decision aimed at preserving the basic social fabric of Uttarakhand, the State government has decided to confiscate the land of such people and families who are not the domiciled residents of the State and have purchased land in excess of the limit of 250 square meters outside the limits of the municipal bodies.  The State will also bring a stringent land law which will be tabled during the budget session of the Assembly next year. Interacting with the media-persons at the State secretariat on Friday the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that many outsiders have purchased land in the State in the names of different members of their family in violation of the regulation which permits one outsider family to purchase upto 250 square meters of land in the State. He said that all such offenders will be identified and the State government will take over the excess land. Dhami said that a change was made in the land laws in the year 2017 in which the maximum limit of purchase of 12.5 acres of land by outsiders was waived off conditionally. Dhami said that these changes incorporated in the land laws and this misuse will be reviewed soon and the land of offenders will be taken over by the government. He said that many people are taking undue advantage of the relaxation by using the land for purposes other than it was purchased.  The CM said that a committee headed by chief secretary is working on the land laws and based on the suggestion of the committee a strict land law will be  tabled in the budget session of the Assembly.  He said that the State government is committed to protect the unique identity and basic fabric of the State. The CM however added that the entrepreneurs who have made  investment in the State should not get bothered by these measures of the State government.
