PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun Moderate to very heavy rain disrupted routine life in various parts of the State on Monday. While most regions witnessed light to moderate rain, bordering on heavy rain, Narendranagar witnessed very heavy rain with 123 millimetres rain being recorded by the State Meteorological Centre. The weather is expected to be similar on Tuesday with the State Meteorological Centre issuing an orange alert (be prepared to take action) regarding the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain likely to occur at isolated places in Nainital, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, Bageshwar, Pauri, Tehri and Dehradun districts today. The centre has also issued a yellow alert (be aware) regarding the possibility of heavy rain likely to occur at isolated places in the remaining districts of Uttarakhand. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning/intense to very intense spells of rain are likely to occur at isolated places in all districts of the State today. Apart from this, light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely to occur at most places in all districts of the State. The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a generally cloudy sky. Few spells of light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely to occur, of which one or two may be intense/heavy. The maximum and minimum temperature are likely to be about 28 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today. Meanwhile, light to moderate rain was reported across the State disrupting routine life on Monday with various areas suffering from overflowing drains and waterlogging in addition to water bodies in spate. There was 63.5 millimetres rain in Yamkeshwar, 55.8 millimetres in Dehradun, 38.5 millimetres in Berinag, 31.5 millimetres in Thalisain, 30 millimetres in Lansdowne, 27 millimetres in Chamba, 26 millimetres in Pauri and 21.5 millimetres in Auli. Considering the conditions faced on Monday and the forecast for today, Disaster Management and Resettlement secretary Vinod Kumar Suman directed the district disaster management officers to remain alert considering the weather alert. The Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority has appealed to the citizens to take the warnings issued by the meteorological centre seriously, not to heed rumours and follow only official information released by authorised government sources. The people have been asked to avoid riverbanks, unnecessary travel while also avoiding staying in waterlogged areas. Vehicles should be driven carefully in areas prone to landslides and citizens should call 112, 1070 or 1077 in case of any emergency situation.
