
CM directs prompt rescue & relief efforts, special teams sent to affected area PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun The State government sprung into action shortly after the major disaster at Dharali in Uttarkashi, dispatching rescue and relief teams, medical teams and ensuring other arrangements for those affected by the tragedy. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami cut short his Andhra Pradesh visit and returned to Dehradun where he visited the State Emergency Operation Centre to monitor the situation and seek updates on the disaster, rescue and relief operations from senior officials. Dhami directed officials to ensure prompt and efficient search and rescue operation while also ordering the dispatch of a team of specialist doctors to the affected area. He said that the administration has been told to remain alert round the clock to take the affected to secure locations, provide necessary medical and relief material, provide better treatment to the injured and provide all other possible assistance to the public. The Central government is also providing its full support in the rescue and relief efforts.Dhami directed officials to ensure that the helpline numbers operate 24 hours. Considering the heavy rain alert issued by the State Meteorological Centre for various areas, he requested the public to avoid unnecessary travel during inclement weather. Meanwhile, Health secretary R Rajesh Kumar said that considering the seriousness of the disaster, a team of specialist doctors was immediately sent to Dharali. The team includes surgeons, physician, orthopaedic surgeon and anaesthetist. The Medical Health and Family Welfare director of Garhwal region has been tasked with handling the team, in addition to being deputed as the nodal officer for this disaster. All major hospitals have been directed to reserve beds for those seriously injured in the disaster. In addition to this, the leaves of all medical officers and employees have been put on hold with immediate effect, till the situation returns to normal. The 108 ambulance service in Dharali and nearby areas has also been kept on high alert. Kumar said that officers and employees are expected to act promptly with sensitivity and any strict official action will be taken against any official found to be negligent.
