
PIONEEREDGE NEWS SERVICE | Jyotirmath/Dehradun Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the disaster-affected area of Tharali in Chamoli district and interacted with the affected persons on Sunday. In addition to reviewing the relief works, he also assured the affected families that the government will provide all possible assistance to them. One person died, one is missing and about a dozen were injured after a flash flood along with debris inundated the markets, homes and other buildings in the area in the wee hours of Saturday. Stating that the government stands in support with the affected people, Dhami said that rescue and relief works are being carried out on a war footing. He said that departmental officials have been directed to conduct these operations 24 x 7, adding that the government will not leave any stone unturned in its efforts. Checking the latest status of the rescue and relief efforts in Tharali, the CM also appreciated the work of the district administration. During his visit to the relief camp at Kulsari, Dhami checked the arrangements made for the affected persons and also sought their feedback. He directed the officials to ensure that the affected persons do not face any inconvenience. The CM also presented Rs five lakh cheques each to the owners of homes completely damaged in the disaster and the next-of-kin of those who died. Officials were also directed to make proper arrangements for the resettlement of those rendered homeless by the disaster. District magistrate Sandeep Tiwari informed the CM about the facilities being provided to the affected in the relief camps. At least 68 persons are living in three relief camps where they are being provided regular meals, medical care and other basic facilities. The roads damaged in the disaster have been restored and the electricity supply will also be restored soon while work to restore the water supply is underway, Tiwari said. Tharali MLA Bhupal Ram Tamta, district Panchayat president Daulat Singh Bisht, superintendent of police Sarvesh Panwar and others were also present during the CM’s inspection. Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party State president Mahendra Bhatt visited All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Rishikesh to check the condition of the injured persons from Tharali under treatment. He assured them of all necessary support.
