PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun One more body was recovered on Wednesday and at least 10 are still buried in debris in Dehradun district after heavy rain triggered a flash flood on Tuesday. The death toll has risen to 14 so far and at least 15 are still missing. Search teams of the Uttarakhand State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reported difficulties in retrieving bodies buried under debris in remote areas of Sahastradhara and Maldevta on Wednesday. Officials said that three bodies are expected to be buried in Karligad village in Sahastradhara and six in a village in Maldevta area. The teams also recovered a body in Premnagar on Wednesday, identified as one of the labourers swept away while working in the Tons river for mining when the water flow intensified on Tuesday. The SDRF will continue operations on Thursday, as per the officials. Besides this, the district administration shifted 168 affected people to five hotels acquired as shelters. Sixty residents from Karligad, 32 from Seragaon and 76 from Kulhan were shifted to hotels. The district tourism development officer has been appointed as nodal officer and the assistant block development officer of Raipur as co-nodal officer. Two staff members have been deployed at each hotel for coordination. Families shifting to rented accommodation will receive Rs 4,000 per month from the administration. Besides this, the administration airlifted 150 ration kits containing rice, pulses, flour, salt, sugar, biscuits and roasted gram to supply ration in cut-off villages. Each kit weighed around 15 to 20 kilogrammes and was distributed to about 60 families. Departments and agencies also continued clearing debris and mud from several roads including Raipur, Dalanwala and Sahastradhara area. Many internal routes including Dalanwala, Raipur Road and Adhoiwala remained blocked on Wednesday, causing commuters difficulty in reaching main roads and intersections. The situation is expected to improve on Thursday, as per the officials.
