Dehradun, 9 Oct: A meeting was convened today to deliberate on the holding of multi-tier sports competitions in Dehradun district under the Sansad Khel Mahotsav for Members of Parliament (MPs). The meeting was chaired by BJP National Co-Treasurer and Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal and attended by senior district officials.
During the meeting, MP Bansal reviewed the preparations for the village, block and district-level games and held detailed discussions with the officials on various operational aspects. It was resolved that the village-level competitions will be conducted on 27 October, followed by block-level games on 12 and 13 November, while the district-level events will be held from 20 to 25 December.
The Sansad Khel Mahotsav is being organised nationwide at the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the objective of identifying and nurturing emerging sports talent. In alignment with this national endeavour, the Dehradun leg of the Mahotsav will be coordinated by the district administration under the guidance of MP Bansal.
Emphasising on the importance of grassroots outreach, Bansal urged the officials to ensure that the games penetrate rural areas and offer a robust platform for budding athletes to receive proper exposure and training. He asserted that the Modi Government is committed to discovering and developing hidden talent through flagship programmes such as Fit India and Khelo India. He further stated that the Sansad Khel Mahotsav is an extension of this vision, wherein elected representatives and administrative officials will directly engage with participants to encourage their sporting aspirations.
Bansal appealed to all athletes to register for both team and individual events on the Sansad Khel Mahotsav portal and participate in large numbers to make the initiative a grand success.
