DEHRADUN, 18 Oct: Preparations are in full swing across Uttarakhand as the State approaches the 25th anniversary of its formation on November 9. The State government has announced that the milestone will be celebrated as a Silver Jubilee Year with a series of grand events. A two-day special session of the State Assembly will also be convened in Dehradun on the occasion.
While there is yet no official confirmation regarding the participation of President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the celebrations, sources claim that the State government is making all-out efforts to secure their participation in the celebrations.
According to the sources, the President is likely to be invited to address the special Assembly session, which will hold discussion on the 25-year development journey of Uttarakhand and deliberate upon its future challenges and opportunities.
According to the officials, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has been authorised to finalise the dates for the special session. The Cabinet had earlier approved its convening in connection with the State’s Silver Jubilee. Both the President and the Prime Minister are likely to be extended formal invitations soon, and an official confirmation regarding their visit is awaited.
It may be recalled that Uttarakhand was formed in the year 2000 during the tenure of the BJP-led Government at the Centre under the then PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, which had also constituted the States of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand besides Uttarakhand (then called as Uttaranchal). The BJP claims that Prime Minister Modi shares a deep emotional bond and special attachment with Uttarakhand, which makes the likelihood of his participation stronger.
The State government has begun elaborate preparations to ensure that the celebrations are grand, memorable, and conducted in a dignified manner. The Silver Jubilee events on 9 November are expected to highlight Uttarakhand’s 25 years of progress and achievements while outlining a vision for its future development.
