PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun The Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) has taken over the probe into the alleged paper leak in the Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission (UKSSSC) graduate-level examination conducted on September 21. The officials said that the agency formally registered a case late on Monday after receiving approval from the Department of Personnel and Training. The CBI has named four people in the FIR as accused- Khalid Malik, Suman, Sabia and Heena. Malik is reported to be the main accused and is alleged to have leaked portions of the exam paper from a centre in Haridwar. His sisters Sabia and Heena reportedly sought assistance from assistant professor Suman to access the correct answers. All four accused named in the case are currently in judicial custody. The investigation has been assigned to CBI assistant superintendent Rajiv Chandola. As part of the process, Uttarakhand Police have begun handing over documents and reports collected during their preliminary inquiry to the central agency, the official said. The examination, held on September 21 for recruitment to 416 positions in various State government departments, was cancelled on October 11 after three pages of the question paper were leaked. The incident triggered protests by unemployed candidates under the banner of Uttarakhand Berozgar Sangh (UBS). The government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under a retired Uttarakhand High Court judge to investigate the leak. The SIT was being led by Dehradun superintendent of police (Rural) Jaya Baluni. However, UBS consistently demanded a CBI probe in the matter. The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami later assured students that the matter will be referred to the CBI and formally recommended a central probe. The registration of the FIR by the CBI marks the first official step toward investigating the network behind the alleged leak. The officials claimed that the CBI’s intervention is expected to uncover the full extent of the irregularities that affected the State recruitment process.
