
PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun The three day special session of Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha was adjourned sine die by the speaker Ritu Khanduri on Wednesday. In the session, the members held elaborate discussions on the achievements of the State in the last 25 years and on a roadmap for the future. On the last day of the session, the Women and Child Development minister Rekha Arya and Parliamentary Affairs minister Subodh Uniyal highlighted the achievements of the State government. Arya informed the house that the infant mortality rate in Uttarakhand has significantly reduced from 52 per ten thousand in 2001 to 20 per ten thousand in 2025. Similarly the mother mortality rate has reduced to 91 per one lakh live child births now from 450 per one lakh live births in 2000. Arya said that in 2001 only 21 per cent institutional deliveries in the state which now has increased to 82.2 per cent in 2025, She said that the data of the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) shows that the immunisation percentage in the State has increased to 88 in 2025 from 47 in 2001. The minister said that the number of community health centres and primary health centres in the State increased to 80 (2025) from 40 (2000) and 577 (2025) from 134 (2000) respectively. She said that the State now has five government medical colleges with 625 MBBS seats and 233 post graduate seats. Arya added that there are 61 lak Ayushman health card holders in the State and so far more than 16 lakh people have availed its benefit. The minister added that the sex ratio in the State was 962 females per one thousand males in 2,000 which now has increased to 984. She said that 5,000 mini Anganwadi centres have been upgraded to Anganwadi centres in the State. The minister added that the budget of the social welfare department was Rs 12.5 crore in 2001 which has now increased to Rs 1266 crore. The Congress members focussed on increasing unemployment, impact of Agnipath scheme on the youngsters of the State, plight of sugarcane farmers, lack of health facilities and other issues of public concern.
