PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun The Uttarakhand director general of police Deepam Seth issued a high alert in the State following the blast in Delhi on Monday evening. The issuance of the high alert resulted in additional checks of cars and trains in various parts of the State. In addition to the checks in the cities, the DGP also ordered that the checking drive be stepped up along international and inter-State borders, sensitive areas, religious places, bazaars, bus depots, railway stations, malls and other crowded places. According to officials, all the district heads of police and other police officers have been directed to step up the level of alertness, increase patrolling and checking, and act on any suspicious activity. In addition to this, the police have also been directed to monitor social media and take necessary action where needed. Mobile units, patrol cars, bomb disposal squads and dog squads have been activated in all districts. Police sources claimed that these teams are conducting elaborate checks in sensitive areas. The police headquarters is monitoring all activities at the State level, officials said. The DGP has appealed to the public to not heed to rumours and to promptly inform the authorities about any suspicious person or activity. The public should inform the nearest police station or call 112 in such a situation. It is pertinent to mention here that recently, Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather, working at a private hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur was arrested during a probe into a sleeper cell of radicalised doctors allegedly involved in promoting or supporting terrorist outfits like Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT). Saharanpur district borders Uttarakhand and the mountain State has international borders with Nepal and China (occupied Tibet). Demographic changes and what the State government has termed as various forms of Jihad have become a prominent part of public discourse and governmental action in Uttarakhand. Considering these factors, the authorities have stepped up the level of security in the State, especially given the prominence of Sanatan Dharm sites.
