
Cabinet subcommittee to decide fate of the UPNL workers PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun In a major decision, the Uttarakhand government has decided to regularise the service of the contractual workers, ad-hoc workers and those appointed on daily wages who have completed 10 years of service in 2018. The decision is likely to benefit more than 5,000 contractual, daily wage, ad-hoc, work affected and part time workers working in different State government departments. A decision in this regard was taken in the meeting of the State cabinet held at the State secretariat on Wednesday. The cabinet also decided to constitute a sub-committee on the issue of regularisation of the Uttarakhand Purva Sainik Kalyan Nigam Limited (UPNL) workers. Informing about the decision of the cabinet, secretary Shailesh Bahgauli said that the decision of regularise the workers appointed before 2008 was taken as per the orders of the Uttarakhand High Court. On the UPNL workers, Bagauli said that the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will soon select the ministers of the cabinet subcommittee and it will submit its report within a period of two months. He said extensive discussions were held in the cabinet on the order of Uttarakhand HC of disbursal of minimum salary and dearness allowance to the UPNL workers. The subcommittee will hold discussions with all the stakeholders and submit its report. In another important decision, the cabinet approved the proposal to increase the compensation amount for the families affected by recent natural disaster in Dharali and other areas. The cabinet decided to increase the compensation on death from existing Rs four lakh to five lakh. Similarly an amount of Rs five lakh will be paid to the families whose Pucca houses were damaged in the disaster. The cabinet approved the proposal to make changes in the memorandum of association and article of association of the UPNL. The secretary Deependra Chaudhary informed that UPNL will now provide overseas employment to the ex-servicemen, their dependents and youngsters. Bagauli said that the cabinet also approved the proposal to constitute a project management unit (PMU) for monitoring of various policies related to public health in the State. The PMU will be constituted as per the guidelines of the 15th Finance Commission under the Urban Development department. One post each of senior health officer, finance controller, MIS expert and accountant will be created in the PMU. The cabinet also endorsed the proposal of accepting insurance security bonds as bid security like bank guarantee and FDR in the process of tenders.
