Dehradun, 19 Nov: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed officials during a high-level meeting held at the Chief Minister’s residence on Wednesday that a detailed action plan should be prepared soon for the establishment of one Spiritual Economic Zone in each of the two divisions of the state. The Chief Minister said that this initiative would prove to be a big step towards establishing Uttarakhand as a global spiritual, cultural and tourist hub.The Chief Minister said that, under this project, along with the preservation of religious, cultural and natural heritage, there should be overall development of pilgrimage sites and their surrounding areas. This would provide new employment and self-employment opportunities to the local youth, while giving a new impetus to the economy of the state. He directed the officials to start the work on this scheme on the ground in this financial year. Under this, Yoga, Meditation, Ayurveda, Naturopathy, local handicrafts, mountain products and cultural events should also be encouraged. The Chief Minister said that this initiative would further enrich the tourism landscape of the state and further strengthen the identity of Uttarakhand as the ‘spiritual capital’.The Chief Minister also stressed on further strengthening the winter travel arrangements in the meeting. He said that while expanding the infrastructure in the winter destinations of the state, travel, accommodation, transport and security arrangements should be strengthened so that even more tourists can experience the natural and cultural diversity of the state. For the wide publicity of winter travel destinations, the tourism potential of the state should be taken to the country and abroad through traditional and modern means.The Chief Minister said that the goal is to promote tourism in the state as well as improve the standard of living of the common person and move forward in the direction of sustainable development by preserving the natural and spiritual heritage of the state. He directed the officials to prepare a concrete strategy to bring the schemes on the ground and ensure monitoring of each stage in a time-bound manner.Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj was also virtually present on the occasion.The meeting was attended by Badri-Kedar Temple Committee President Hemant Dwivedi, Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, Principal Secretaries RK Singh, K Sudhanshu, Dr R Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretaries Shailesh Bagauli, Dhiraj Singh Garbyal, Resident Commissioner Ajay Mishra, Additional Secretary Abhishek Rohila and other officials.
