Dehradun, 1 Dec: In a routine inter-cadre transfer approved on personal grounds, 2021-batch IAS officer Praveen Kumar of the Bihar cadre has been formally shifted to the Uttarakhand cadre. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, cleared the transfer following due procedure, after which the General Administration Department authorised him to join his new cadre in Uttarakhand. Praveen Kumar is presently serving as the Deputy Development Commissioner of Begusarai and is expected to be relieved shortly to enable his joining in Uttarakhand. His wife Anamika Singh is an IAS officer of Uttarakhand cadre and is serving in the state.
Praveen Kumar’s transfer comes in accordance with the established policy that generally permits inter-cadre movement of civil servants when both husband and wife belong to the All India Services but are allotted different State cadres. In such cases, the DoPT usually considers requests for cadre change on grounds of family unity, subject to vacancies and the concurrence of the State governments concerned.
With Anamika Singh serving in Uttarakhand as an IAS officer, it makes the couple eligible for the inter-cadre transfer under the spousal posting provisions. According to available information, she belongs to the Uttarakhand cadre and has been posted in various administrative roles in the State.
Inter-cadre transfers of this nature are not uncommon, particularly among younger batches, as the government has been encouraging policies that reduce the strain on officers’ family lives and improve administrative efficiency.
With Praveen Kumar now allotted the Uttarakhand cadre, the State administration is expected to place him in an appropriate field posting once he reports for duty. Further orders regarding his assignment are likely to be issued soon.
