
PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Rudrapur Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the late Pandit Ram Sumer Sharma was a visionary who laid a strong foundation for development of the Terai region of the State after independence as chairman of the Terai Colonization scheme. He made the development of farmers, freedom fighters and the entire Terai region a goal of his life, adding that the State government is committed to ensuring the development of the Terai region. He was addressing a programme organised to mark 47th death anniversary of Sharma at the upcoming Government Ram Sumer Sharma medical college, Rudrapur on Thursday. The CM said that the present day landscape of Rudrapur and the Terai is the result of the vision of Pandit Sharma and added that the State government’s unwavering resolve is to transform the Terai region into a modern, developed and prosperous region. He said that the State government has undertaken many development projects in the Terai region. The construction of the Rudrapur medical college is underway and construction of the Rudrapur bypass at a cost of Rs 590 crore, four-lane roads connecting Khatima-Tanakpur and Gadarpur-Jaspur and the widening of the Manunagar-Gadarpur-Dineshpur-Haldwani road at a cost of Rs 55 crore are underway. He added that work is underway on the renovation of Rudrapur railway station, new signal lines and two rail over-bridges. The CM said that a satellite centre All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh is being built in Kichha at a cost of Rs 351 crores. Construction of an international airport in Pantnagar is also in progress. Similarly bypasses are also being constructed in Gadarpur and Khatima, modern bus stands in Khatima and Kichha, and sports facilities are being expanded in Rudrapur, Gadarpur and Chakarpur. Dhami said that the establishment of Aroma Park in Kashipur, Plastic Park in Sitarganj, electronics manufacturing cluster in Kashipur and Multimodal Logistics Park in Pantnagar will play a vital role in the development of the region. The proposed Industrial Smart City in Khurpiya will also prove to be a milestone in the economic progress of the region. He informed that work on the Jamrani Dam Project has been restarted, which will provide drinking water and irrigation facilities in the area. Furthermore, the support price has recently been increased by Rs 30 per quintal in the interest of sugarcane farmers. Programme coordinator and former MLA Rajesh Shukla said that under the leadership of Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, Pandit Ram Sumer Shukla made a historic contribution to the settlement of the Terai region. He said that CM Dhami is taking a keen interest in the development of the Terai region and has set an example by implementing landmark decisions like the UCC and the anti-cheating law. On the occasion, the CM felicitated 11 individuals who had accomplished outstanding work in various fields by presenting them with mementos.
