Dehradun, 5 Dec: Strict action will be taken against teachers of the School Education Department who have wrongfully availed benefits using disability certificates. For this purpose, a four-member committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of the Director of Secondary Education. The committee will examine teachers’ disability certificates in detail on a case-to-case basis and submit its report to the government.
State School Education Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat stated today that an inquiry has been initiated against teachers who allegedly misused disability certificates. The four-member committee, headed by the Director of Secondary Education, will thoroughly review the certificates case-by-case and submit its findings to the government. Based on this report, strict action will be taken against those who wrongfully availed the benefits.
Dr Rawat said that, in compliance with a Public Interest Litigation filed in the High Court, the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities provided a list of 52 teachers deemed ineligible by the State Medical Council. These include 2 Principals, 21 Lecturers, and 29 Assistant Teachers (LT). All of them were issued show-cause notices by the department. In response, 20 lecturers and 9 assistant teachers have submitted their replies to the department.
Dr Rawat added that firm action will be taken against teachers and non-teaching staff who obtained reservation benefits through improper means. Separate verification of certificates of other personnel will also be undertaken at the departmental level.
He said that the provision of reservation for persons with disabilities is applicable in state government services, including appointments and promotions under the School Education Department. The department has consistently provided reservation to persons with disabilities as per rules during various recruitments and promotions. However, the misuse of disability-based reservation by some teachers is a matter of concern. Therefore, a detailed and transparent verification of disability certificates will be carried out.
