Nainital, 11 Dec: The Uttarakhand High Court has stayed the job termination of nearly 2,000 outsourced employees of the Forest Department, whose services were discontinued following a change in the budgetary head from which their salaries were drawn. Hearing the petition, the single bench of Senior Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari put the termination order on hold and directed the department to continue taking their services on a regular basis, subject to the availability of posts and work.
The petition was filed by Dinesh Chauhan along with around 300 outsourced employees, stating that the department had terminated their services solely because their salaries were being paid from a different head of account and that the change in this head had been cited as the reason for discontinuation. They also argued that the department was not regularising their services despite their long years of work in the department. During the hearing, the State Government submitted that there was no specific financial head under which their salaries could be paid, and therefore, it had decided that their services could not be continued.
The Court had earlier passed an interim order in February 2023 on the termination issue, and in its latest decision, it ruled in favour of the employees, granting relief to more than 2,000 outsourced workers.
