

my uttarakhand news BureauDehradun / New Delhi: Uttarakhand Irrigation Minister Satpal Maharaj has directed officials to expedite the construction work on the Sharda Barrage being built on the Sharda River (Mahakali River).
The Irrigation Minister paid a courtesy visit on the Ambassador of Nepal to India, Dr Shankar Prasad Sharma, in New Delhi. During the meeting, discussions were held in the presence of Director of the Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI), Lieutenant Colonel Sameer Jaffery, Under Secretary Bhupendra Singh Rawat, and Deputy Chief of Mission of Nepal, Dr Surendra Thapa.
Considering the cordial relations between India and Nepal, the Minister emphasised the need to accelerate the construction of the Sharda Barrage on the Sharda (Mahakali) River. He stated that the Banbasa Barrage has completed its designed lifespan, and therefore retrofitting should be undertaken or a new bridge constructed in its place.
Detailed discussions were also held regarding the construction of a proposed Dry Port at Banbasa during the meeting.
