DEHRADUN, 20 Dec: BJP State president and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt on Saturday announced that the BJP will soon launch the ‘Meri Ganana, Mera Gaon’ (My Census, My Village) campaign to preserve the hilly character of Uttarakhand. Under this initiative, migrants residing in other parts of India as well as abroad will be urged to ensure their census enumeration takes place in their ancestral villages.
Addressing the media at the party headquarters here on Saturday, Bhatt underlined the importance of the forthcoming national census. He stated that the party firmly believes every resident of the state, whether living in another province or overseas, should have their census recorded in their original region. He pointed out that a troubling outcome of the delimitation exercise after the last census was the reduction in assembly seats in the mountainous areas. To safeguard the hill identity of the state, the BJP’s position is clear: all individuals must ensure their counting in their respective villages. Bhatt appealed to the public, stressing that wherever a person may be, even abroad, they should register for the census at their village. He added that the party will soon constitute a dedicated team to run this campaign, reaching out to people across India and overseas with the request that while their vote may be elsewhere, their census entry should remain in their village to ensure that assembly seats in the hills remain viable and responsive to local needs.
Responding to comments made by former Chief Minister Harish Rawat, Bhatt asserted that the true certificate of character is given by the people, who demonstrate through their votes whom they regard as descendants of Lord Ram and whom they associate with Ravana. He remarked that the BJP does not require validation from anyone, as citizens are fully aware of whose conduct and actions reflect which values, whether Pandavas or Kauravas, or Rama and Ravana. Countering allegations of Hindu-Muslim politics, he stated that the BJP government functions on the principle of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, and Sabka Vishwas’. He claimed that it is the Congress and the opposition who practise appeasement and then raise a hue and cry when exposed. He added that the image of Congress as a party of appeasement is so deeply entrenched in public perception that it cannot be erased even if attempts are made.
Speaking about his meeting with the National Working President in Delhi, Bhatt shared that he conveyed congratulations to Nitin Nabin on behalf of all the state party workers and requested him to visit Uttarakhand soon to boost the morale of the local cadre. Reflecting on the appointment, Bhatt observed that in the BJP, a president is not born of dynasty as in other parties but is chosen from among the workers based on merit and hard work. He stated that this reinforces the message that any dedicated worker can rise to lead the party. He concluded that the arrival of a young National President has infused fresh energy into party workers across the country, which will propel the organisation to greater heights in the times ahead.
