Dehradun, 22 Dec: The 56/ 57 Regular Course and 40 Technical Course are celebrating their Golden Jubilee Celebrations at Indian Military Academy from 21 to 23 December. The course that passed out on 21 December 1975 holds historical significance, as it was the first course of the Indian Military Academy in which the gentlemen cadets were graduates.
The officers of this course have participated in Op Pawan in Sri Lanka, Op Vijay in Kargil, in counter insurgency operations in Kashmir, Op Rakshak and Op Rhino in the North East, Op Meghdoot in Siachin, Op Prakram, Op Falcon and many more and have earned lot of laurels and awards.
The officers of this course achieved lot of higher ranks, 13 officers became Lieutenant Generals, 25 Major Generals and more than 50 Brigadiers. Two Lieutenant Generals, Sanjiv Madhok and Rajan Bakshi became Army Commanders. Fifty-six officers of this course have left for their heavenly abode. During the ceremony, 25 officers of this course also pledged to donate their eyes.
The celebrations began with the Golden Jubilee Dinner which was attended by the Commandant and Deputy Commandant of the IMA.
On 22 December, the celebrations started by paying homage to martyrs at The Memorial. Wreaths were laid by the chief coordinator of the course, Brigadier PPS Pahwa, Commander Vijay Bhardwaj and Group Captain MN Saxena.
The event was attended by 330 officers and ladies including 9 Lieutenant Generals, 12 Major Generals and 23 Brigadiers.
