Dehradun, 23 Dec: A one-day programme on the theme, “Effective Use of AI in the Healthcare Sector”, was organised on Tuesday at the Lok Bhawan, here. The programme was organised by Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University and was attended by Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) and Health Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat.
During the programme, CV Venkata Subrahmanyam, Chief Operating Officer, CRMIT, Bengaluru, highlighted the usefulness of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the medical field and shared information on the effective use of the AI-based application “Dhanvantari”.
Dr Ankur Mittal, Head of the Department of Urology, AIIMS Rishikesh, shared important insights on modern methods of diagnosis and treatment with the help of AI, along with key information related to urological cancers.

Addressing the programme as the Chief Guest, Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) said that in the 21st century, understanding and adopting AI and technology is the need of the hour. He stated that the present era is the era of AI, and only those societies and nations that understand the importance of technology and use it effectively will move forward.
The Governor said that India has rapidly embraced AI, and today its wide-ranging impact is visible in almost all sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture, and planning. The growing role of AI in the medical sector is making healthcare services stronger and more efficient. He emphasised that by adopting AI as a supportive tool, doctors can be empowered further.
He added that AI is not merely a technological innovation, but a powerful means to improve the quality of human life and make healthcare services more accessible, effective, and reliable. Through AI-based technologies, significant progress has been made in accurate diagnosis, early detection of diseases, personalised medicine, and drug research—taking healthcare beyond the “one size fits all” approach towards “one patient–one solution”.
Highlighting the importance of AI in the context of Uttarakhand, the Governor stressed that considering the state’s geographical challenges, AI can play a vital role in delivering better healthcare services to people living in hilly and remote areas at the last mile. He described this as a revolutionary change and said that everyone must connect with it. He urged a change in mindset and encouraged the use of AI and modern technology without hesitation.
On this occasion, Health Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat shared details of departmental schemes and said that the suggestions received from experts during the seminar would be implemented. He noted that over the past 25 years, the state has made remarkable progress in the field of medical education and healthcare.
On the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Tripathi outlined the objectives of the programme and expressed gratitude to all participants. The programme was attended by Additional Secretary Reena Joshi, Dean Dr Geeta Jain, Registrar Dr Ashish Uniyal, several dignitaries, and students from various colleges.
