Dehradun, 31 Dec: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in a veterans’ meet organised on the occasion of the New Year at Hathibarkala, here, today. Addressing the gathering on this occasion, he asserted that Uttarakhand is a land of the brave, comprising both the serving soldiers and the veterans. He emphasised that the state government remains consistently sensitive and proactive towards their honour, rehabilitation, and welfare. The CM also shared that being the son of a soldier himself, he has closely witnessed the discipline, sacrifice and the patriotism of the army. He added that he makes every possible effort to attend events connected with the armed forces.
Dhami further observed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi invariably spends every significant occasion amongst the soldiers. He added that under the PM’s leadership, several historic decisions have been taken for the welfare of the soldiers and the veterans. There has been continuous progress in the modernisation of the armed forces, rapid development of border areas and provision of modern equipment, housing and welfare facilities. These initiatives, the CM claimed, have greatly boosted the morale and pride of both serving personnel and the veteran community. He highlighted that the state government is running various welfare schemes specifically for the dependants of martyrs, veterans, and retired military personnel in Uttarakhand.
Sainik Welfare Minister Ganesh Joshi observed that the soldiers and the veterans are the pride of the nation, whose sacrifice and discipline ensure that India remains secure and strong. Joshi added that under the leadership of CM Dhami, the state government is taking constant and concrete steps for the welfare of the soldiers, the veterans and their dependants. He noted that the government has increased the prize and honour money for the soldiers several-fold, thereby lending greater dignity to the honour of martyrs and brave-hearts. He mentioned that the Dhami government has taken a sensitive and historic decision to provide government jobs to the kin of soldiers who attain martyrdom while defending the country at the borders. So far, employment in government service has been provided to the family members of 28 martyred soldiers, reflecting the government’s commitment to military families.
Among those who were present on the occasion were several retired military officers including Lt Gen (Retd) AK Singh, Brig (Retd) KG Behl, Maj Gen (Retd) Sammi Sabharwal, Lt Gen (Retd) Ashwani Kumar, Maj Gen (Retd) OP Rana, Brig (Retd) JNS Bisht, Maj Gen (Retd) Devesh Agnihotri, Maj Gen (Retd) OP Soni and Maj Gen (Retd) Anand Rawat.
