PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun Taking cognisance of the complaints of irregularities in the maintenance and entries in the Parivar register, the Uttarakhand government has decided to conduct an audit and formulate a policy of the Parivar register. A proposal for the policy would soon be brought before the State cabinet. A directive in this regard was given by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in a high level meeting at the State secretariat on Saturday. In the meeting, the CM directed that copies of the Parivar register available in all districts should be immediately secured with the District Magistrate concerned, to eliminate any possibility of tampering with the records. It was also decided to conduct a thorough audit of the Parivar registers at the level of chief development officer/ additional district magistrate. The CM said that Parivar register is governed by the Panchayat Raj (Maintenance of Parivar register) Rules, 1970. According to which it is mandatory for every family residing in rural areas to have their name registered in the Parivar register. The rules also provide for the process of correcting existing entries and adding new names, which is now being prepared to be made more stringent and transparent. He said that the authority to enter names in the Parivar register rests with the assistant development officer (Panchayat), while the right to appeal rests with the SDM concerned. Currently, services related to the Parivar register are also being provided through the Apuni Sarkar portal. The CM was informed that in recent years, unauthorized settlements in rural areas of the plain districts bordering the State have led to concerns about demographic imbalances being affected by the inclusion of names in Parivar registers. In view of this issue the government has decided to incorporate amendments to the rules governing Parivar registers. According to data presented by the Panchayati Raj department a total of 2,66,294 applications were received for Parivar register between April 1 and December 31, 2025 and out of which 2,60,337 applications were approved and 5,429 applications were rejected due to violation of rules and incomplete documents. The CM said that the authorities should check the register in all the districts.
