Dehradun, 5 Jan: The Himalayan Maha Kumbh, Shri Nanda Devi Raj Jat—held once every 12 years—is proposed to be organised this year during July–August. In view of this significant event, a meeting of the Shri Nanda Raj Jat Organising Committee was held in Dehradun under the chairmanship of Bhuvan Nautiyal.
In the meeting, it was decided to prepare a systematic and authentic history of Shri Nanda Devi Raj Jat and to preserve the historical, cultural, and social documents associated with it. With this objective, a one-day seminar comprising four sessions will be organised on 11 January at the auditorium of Doon University.
The seminar will primarily focus on in-depth discussions on the history, traditions, archaeology, folk culture, and social aspects of Shri Nanda Devi Raj Jat, with special emphasis on documentation. The aim is to bring together available research, records, and oral traditions related to the Raj Jat on a single platform and to preserve and organize them systematically.
Addressing the meeting, Bhuvan Nautiyal stated that despite the availability of numerous documents related to the Raj Jat pilgrimage, the lack of comprehensive and organized research has so far prevented the preparation of an authoritative text.
On this occasion, Bhawani Singh, a descendant of the Tehri royal family, said that if the history and traditions of the Raj Jat are compiled and published, its historical heritage can be preserved. He reiterated his commitment to provide necessary support in this direction.
The President of the Organising Committee, Prof Rakesh Kunwar, assured that all available documents related to the Raj Jat would be made accessible. He added that this process would help compile a chronological and comprehensive history of Shri Nanda Devi Raj Jat at one place, which would be useful for researchers and future generations.
Dr Avinash Chandra Joshi informed that to realise these objectives, the one-day seminar is being organised at Doon University.
Those present at the meeting included Bhuvan Nautiyal, Prof Rakesh Panwar, Major General (Dr) GK Thapliyal, Dr Avinash Chandra Joshi, Colonel DS Bartwal, Pandit Bhaskar Dimri, Dr Alok Kumar, Dr Kusum Nautiyal, Shiv Painyuli, Vinod Nautiyal, Dr Manvendra Singh Bartwal, Devi Prasad Devli, and Shalini Nautiyal, among others.
