Dehradun, 7 Jan: Secretary, Information Technology Department, Uttarakhand, Nitesh Kumar Jha, along with his team, paid a courtesy call on Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) at the Lok Bhawan, here, today. During the meeting, discussions were held on the progress, ongoing initiatives, and future roadmap of the Uttarakhand AI Mission.
The Secretary informed the Governor that the State Government is formulating a comprehensive and phased action plan to promote the effective use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across all departments. The objective is to bring greater transparency to governance, enhance the accuracy of decision-making, and improve the quality and timeliness of service delivery. He stated that AI-based solutions are playing a significant role in strengthening local governance, enabling data-driven policy decisions, and making citizen-centric services more effective.
On the occasion, the Governor said that the year 2026 will be known as a decisive year for the AI revolution. He expressed confidence that Uttarakhand possesses the full potential to emerge as a leader in this transformative technology. With the convergence of the state’s youthful talent, academic institutions, technological ecosystem, and administrative will, Uttarakhand can present a strong model of AI-driven good governance.
The Governor further emphasised that the purpose of technology should not be innovation alone, but public welfare. The use of AI must be balanced with human sensitivity, ethical values, and traditional administrative judgement, so that development remains inclusive, sustainable, and trustworthy.
During the meeting, discussions were also held on further strengthening collaboration among academic institutions, start-ups, and government departments, expanding capacity-building programmes, and developing Uttarakhand as a hub for AI innovation in North India.
Additional Secretary (IT) and Director, ITDA, Alok Kumar Pandey, was also present on the occasion.
