Haridwar, 8 Jan: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) participated in the 26th Lohri Festival organised by the Punjabi community in Haridwar. On this occasion, extending his greetings on Lohri, he said that the festival is associated with cultural consciousness, auspicious blessings, and people-centric values. Lohri is a celebration linked to agricultural production and symbolises the arrival of the New Year, prosperity, and the infusion of positive energy into humanity.
The Governor stated that festivals like Lohri reflect the unity inherent in India’s cultural diversity and convey a message of mutual brotherhood, harmony, and fraternity in society.
Referring to the thoughts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Governor said that India’s cultural diversity is its greatest strength, and Lohri holds a special place within it. He noted that the folk art, music, and traditions of the Punjabi community are unique worldwide, and praised the community’s commendable role in serving humanity during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Highlighting the teachings of the Guru tradition, the Governor said that it teaches that all human beings originate from the same divine source, making it essential to uphold tolerance, love, and goodwill in society. He called upon the gathering to work for the welfare of the nation and society with a nation-first spirit, and to move forward with dedication to realise the Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
On this occasion, Haridwar MP Trivendra Singh Rawat, MLA Madan Kaushik, Mayors Kiran Jaiswal and Anita Aggarwal, district administration and police officials, office bearers of the Punjabi Mahasabha, and a large number of distinguished citizens were also present.
