Dehradun, 13 Jan: State Congress President Ganesh Godiyal and Leader of the Opposition Yashpal Arya today visited village Paiga in Udham Singh Nagar and met the family members of deceased farmer Sukhwant Singh, expressing their condolences and sympathies. They also gathered detailed information about the entire incident.
Providing the above information, Rajeev Maharshi, outgoing In-charge of the Pradesh Congress Media Department, said that under the leadership of State Congress President Ganesh Godiyal and Leader of the Opposition Yashpal Arya, a delegation of senior Congress leaders met the family of the deceased farmer.
On this occasion, Congress leaders also demanded a judicial inquiry from the government into the case of the farmer’s suicide in Kashipur.
State Congress President Ganesh Godiyal said that the reasons behind the farmer’s suicide are deeply disturbing and shake the conscience of humanity. He stated that the law and order situation in the state is deteriorating day by day, and the Kashipur farmer suicide case is a glaring example of this. He said that this is not merely a case of a farmer’s suicide, but a blot on the Dhami government and the state police. The alleged involvement of police officers in such acts forces the public to question whether police personnel are sacrificing someone’s life for the comfort of their own families, which is a matter of serious concern for the people of the state.
He alleged that instead of taking action on the farmer’s complaint of fraud, the police began harassing and threatening the complainant farmer after taking money from the accused, which ultimately forced him to take the extreme step of suicide.
Ganesh Godiyal demanded that a high-level judicial inquiry be conducted into the Kashipur farmer Sukhwant Singh suicide case and that strict action be taken against the guilty. He further demanded that adequate compensation be provided to the bereaved family and that the accused police officers and personnel be immediately dismissed, so that they cannot influence the investigation.
Leader of the Opposition Yashpal Arya said that merely suspending police personnel in this case is not enough. He alleged that due to police harassment and the arrogance of those in power, a farmer was forced to commit suicide. This incident has destroyed an entire family. He said that this is not just the death of a farmer, but the result of the government’s inhumane policies.
He demanded a judicial inquiry into the entire matter and also called for cases to be registered against the guilty police officers for abetment to suicide. He further demanded that the government immediately announce ₹50 lakh compensation to the deceased farmer’s family and provide a government job to one family member. The officials involved in the harassment of the deceased farmer should be dismissed immediately.
Yashpal Arya alleged that under the BJP government, farmers are not safe and there is no guarantee of justice for victims. He said that the Congress party will fight from the streets to the legislature to ensure justice for the affected family.
On this occasion, Congress National Secretary Manoj Yadav, MLA Tilakraj Behar, Deputy Leader of the Opposition Bhuvan Kapadi, MLA, Jaspur, Adesh Chauhan, District President Himanshu Gaba, AICC member Anupam Sharma, Indu Maan, Sandeep Sehgal, Manoj Joshi, and other Congress leaders were also present.
