Dehradun, 13 Jan: Uttarakhand achieved a landmark breakthrough in shooting sport as Mayank Marwah, Senior Coach, Mentor and ISSF B Judge at the Doon Institute of Shooting and Sports (DISS), became the first coach from the state to be awarded the ISSF A-License, the highest international coaching certification in shooting.
The ISSF A-License is conferred by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), the apex authority for shooting sports, headquartered in Munich. Marwah received the honour at the ISSF World Cup Finals in Doha, where it was presented by ISSF President Luciano Rossi and ISSF Academy Director Dr Vesa. The achievement places Uttarakhand firmly on the global shooting map.
Widely regarded as the gold standard in coaching, the ISSF A-License certifies mastery in Olympic-level training systems, sports science, biomechanics, performance analysis, elite mental conditioning, pressure management, and the structured development of a winning attitude and championship mindset.
Marwah had earlier earned the ISSF B-License in both Pistol and Shotgun disciplines, again becoming the first coach from Uttarakhand to secure ISSF certification in both events. That qualification was awarded in Finland, reflecting consistent international recognition of his coaching expertise.
He serves as Senior Coach at Doon Institute of Shooting and Sports (DISS), established in 2000, which has trained over 5,000 shooters and produced numerous national and international medalists. The institute was founded by his father, the late SM Marwah, former BSF Commandant and Asian and Commonwealth Games medallist, along with his mother, Madhu Marwah, Director of DISS.
Reaffirming his commitment, Marwah said he is fully prepared to build a globally competitive, grassroots-to-Olympic pathway for Uttarakhand and stands ready to shoulder any responsibility entrusted by the state to strengthen high-performance sport. He also sought guidance and support from Pushkar Singh Dhami, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, and Rekha Arya, Sports Minister, to position Uttarakhand as a recognised centre of excellence in shooting.
