Dehradun, 14 Jan: The Headquarters, Uttarakhand Sub Area, Dehradun, observed the10th Armed Forces Veterans’ Day with solemnity and pride, here, today.
The occasion marks the retirement anniversary of Field Marshal KM Cariappa, India’s first Commander-in-Chief, whose inspirational leadership during the 1947 war laid the foundation for the enduring values of discipline, patriotism, and selfless service in the Indian Armed Forces.
The event paid homage to the brave soldiers and war widows of the Armed Forces and accorded special recognition to the distinguished veterans of Uttarakhand.
Around 1,000 veterans attended the event, while the presence of serving personnel from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, along with NCC cadets, added to the dignity and inspirational spirit of the gathering.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) described veterans as the bedrock of national strength, whose courage and commitment continue to inspire generations. Veterans’ Welfare Minister Ganesh Joshi outlined various welfare initiatives undertaken by the State Government for veterans and their families. Major General MPS Gill, VSM, GOC Uttarakhand Sub Area, stressed the importance of remembering and honouring the sacrifices made by veterans in the service of the nation.
The ceremony reaffirmed the commitment of Headquarters Uttarakhand Sub Area towards the welfare of veterans and their families. The collective presence of veterans and serving personnel served as a powerful reminder of the illustrious legacy of Field Marshal Cariappa and the unwavering spirit of India’s soldiers dedicated to safeguarding the nation.
