Dehradun, 14 Jan: Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan visited the Skill Hub in Sahaspur, operating under the Department of Skill Development and Employment, here, today. During the visit, he reviewed the ongoing courses at the Centre of Excellence and interacted with the students undergoing training.
The Chief Secretary instructed that students from all Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the state should be given a tour of the Centre of Excellence. He expressed concern over underutilisation of the training capacity and directed that the Centre be operated at full capacity within a month.
He also emphasised the integration of the courses conducted at the Centre of Excellence into the curriculum of Industrial Training Institutes. Furthermore, he directed that foreign language training programmes should include exposure to the living and work culture of the respective countries to better prepare trainees for international employment opportunities.
During the visit, the Chief Secretary engaged with the students to discuss their experiences and future plans and extended his best wishes for their bright careers.
Director, Skill Development and Employment, Sanjay Kumar, explained that the Skill Hub, Sahaspur, was established in Dehradun district to provide high-quality technical training to ITI graduates, linking them to employment opportunities in India and abroad. The Hub offers foreign language training and operates specialised wings such as the Centre of Excellence and the Overseas Employment Cell. Currently, the Overseas Employment Cell is placing youth in nursing, caregiver, and hospitality sectors in countries like Japan and Germany. Domain-specific training is provided by state nursing colleges and hotel management institutes, while residential foreign language training is offered at the Skill Hub.
The visit was attended by District Magistrate, Dehradun, Savin Bansal, Director Sanjay Kumar, Joint Director Anil Singh, and other senior officials.
