Dehradun, 18 Jan: The officials of Graphic Era briefed Supreme Court Justice Ujjal Bhuyan about the initiatives being undertaken by the University on social development, alleviating the suffering of others, and supporting the families of martyrs.
Justice Ujjal Bhuyan was informed that Graphic Era Deemed to be University and Graphic Era Hill University have provisions to provide completely free education in engineering, management, and all other courses to the children of martyrs, despite existing challenges. Many disaster affected students from Joshimath are also being provided free education.
During natural disasters, teams from Graphic Era have consistently delivered relief to remote areas. The teams have successfully reached places where no one had been able to reach before. The Chairman of Graphic Era Group of Institutions, Dr Kamal Ghanshala, takes keen interest in such socially responsible initiatives and in encouraging students to develop a spirit of helping others.
The officials also informed Justice Bhuyan that as soon as the second wave of COVID-19 began, Dr Ghanshala arranged for all students of both universities to be sent home by planes and taxis. Free quarantine centres were run, and the Chairman and Vice-Chairman, Dr Rakhi Ghanshala, personally risked their lives by visiting settlements to distribute thousands of quintals of food grains. This food distribution mission has continued ever since. Justice Bhuyan expressed happiness over these efforts.
On this occasion, District and Sessions Judge Prem Singh Khimal, Chief Judicial Magistrate Rinki Sahni, Pro-Chancellor Dr Rakesh Sharma, Vice-Chancellors Dr Narpinder Singh and Dr Amit R Bhatt, Registrars Dr Naresh Sharma and Dr DK Joshi, and Director (Infrastructure) Dr Subhash Gupta were also present.
