By Sunil Sonker Mussoorie, 22 Jan: A tragic accident occurred in Mussoorie on Thursday. A young man from Dehradun died on the spot after falling into a deep gorge while taking a selfie. The accident was so horrific that the rescue operation took the police and local people more than five hours. According to the information, the young man was returning to Dehradun on his scooter. During this time, he parked his scooter on the side of a hilly road in Mussoorie and started taking a selfie while standing near the edge of the gorge. His foot slipped, and he fell straight into the deep gorge. Upon receiving information about the incident, Mussoorie police reached the spot. Due to the extreme depth and inaccessibility of the gorge, the rescue operation faced great difficulties. With the help of local people, after about five hours of strenuous effort, the young man was pulled out of the gorge, but by then he had already died. The young man was brought to the sub-district hospital in Mussoorie by ambulance, where doctors declared him dead.
The deceased has been identified as Rajat Ranjan Saxena, son of Rajendra Narayan Saxena, a resident of nearby Government Polytechnic, Amwala Manjala, Dehradun. He was traveling on a scooter with registration number UK 07 AH 2325. According to the police, the deceased’s family has been informed about the incident. The body has been taken into custody, and post-mortem procedures are being carried out. This accident once again raises questions about negligence and the growing obsession with selfies in hilly areas. The police administration has appealed to tourists and local people to exercise special caution in hilly areas and avoid taking selfies in dangerous places.
