Dehradun, 22 Jan: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today termed the latest revelations in Congress MLA Tilak Raj Behad’s son assault case as the height of negative and conspiratorial politics by the Congress. In a statement issued today, BJP Spokesman and Dharampur MLA Vinod Chamoli demanded an unconditional apology from Congress leaders for what it described as false and defamatory allegations levelled against the state government on the issue of law and order. Chamoli said it was deeply unfortunate that the Congress had stooped to such a low level merely to malign the BJP-led government.
Reacting to the developments, Chamoli said the BJP has consistently urged all the political parties to practise positive politics and contribute constructively to the development of Uttarakhand. However, he alleged that Congress leaders, instead of cooperating, have been continuously engaged in creating false narratives against the BJP government, even at the cost of damaging the image of the state. He said the Congress had made it a habit to manufacture confusion and spread rumours to target the government and the party, but every such attempt had eventually fallen flat.

Chamoli reminded that similar politically motivated attempts had earlier been made by the Congress in several sensitive matters, including the Ankita Bhandari murder case, the Kashipur farmer suicide case, disaster-related issues and even matters concerning Kedarnath Dham. On each occasion, he said, the Congress had tried to politicise tragedies and sensitive issues to score political points, only to be exposed later.
Referring specifically to the recent disclosures in the alleged attack on the son of Congress MLA Tilak Raj Behad, Chamoli said the case has now emerged as a clear example of political malice. Expressing regret, he said it was difficult to believe that the Congress could fall so far in its desperation to target the BJP government. He recalled that senior Congress leaders had rushed to the MLA’s residence and made sweeping, one-sided allegations about the collapse of law and order in the state. However, he said, the accused arrested by the police had now admitted that the incident was part of a conspiracy.
Chamoli asserted that with the truth coming out, all senior Congress leaders who had levelled baseless, misleading, insulting and conspiratorial allegations against the government should immediately tender a public apology. He said such irresponsible, insensitive, immature and negative politics was precisely the reason why the Congress had lost the trust of the people. Once again, he added, it had become clear that the Congress is willing to go to any extent for political gain, even if it means undermining public faith and tarnishing the image of the state.
