
PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun The winter Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand is attracting a very good pilgrim footfall. After the closure of the portals for winters, a total of 34,140 pilgrims have so far visited the winter abodes of the Char Dhams. The data of the tourism department shows that the a good number of pilgrims from across the country and the world are visiting Pandukeshwar in Jyotirmath ( the winter abode of Badrinath), Ukhimath ( winter abode of Kedarnath), Mukhwa ( abode of Yamunotri in winters) and Kharsali (winter abode of Gangotri). The officer on special duty for Char Dham Yatra management authority, Prajapati Nautiyal said that till now the maximum number of pilgrims (20,338) have visited Ukhimath followed by Jyotirmath, Kharsali and Mukhwa. The winter Char Dham Yatra will continue for about two and a half months. This is the second consecutive year when the winter Yatra is being successfully conducted at the level of the State government. When this Yatra was officially started for the first time in the year 2024-25, a total of 73,381 pilgrims had come to Uttarakhand. The officers of the Tourism department claim that the tourist spots of the State are also bustling with activity during this winter season. To attract more tourists, the department has organised events such as the Snow Leopard Tour and conclave of tour and travel operators. Expressing happiness, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the people from across the country and the world are visiting Uttarakhand even during winter to visit holy sites and witness its natural beauty. “The winter Char Dham Yatra is being successfully organised for the second consecutive year. The way Prime Minister Narendra Modi promoted this pilgrimage to Uttarakhand nationally and internationally by visiting Mukhwa and Harshil last year is yielding fruitful results. The success of the perennial pilgrimage is also boosting employment for local people,’’ he said.
