

BJP observes 649th birth anniversary of Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidas

Dehradun, 31 Jan: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) commemorated the 649th birth anniversary of Sant Shiromani Poet Guru Ravidas with a programme organised at the party office here today. On this occasion, the party leaders and the party workers paid floral tributes to the saint by garlanding his portrait and recalling his contribution to social reform and spiritual thought.
The programme was inaugurated by In-charge, BJP Uttarakhand Scheduled Caste Wing, Harish Mewa Faros and BJP’s State General Secretary (Organisation) Ajaey Kumar. Speakers on the occasion reminded the audience that the teachings of Sant Ravidas were rooted in the principles of equality, unity and devotion to one God. They stressed that his life’s mission was to eradicate social evils such as untouchability, caste discrimination and superstition, while inspiring people to worship the Creator without prejudice or division.
It was stated that Ravidas chose Brajbhasha, the language of the common people, as the medium for his poetry so that his message could reach the masses. His compositions also reflect the influence of Awadhi, Rajasthani, Khadi Boli and Rekhta, which incorporates Urdu and Persian vocabulary. Speakers also observed that around forty hymns composed by Sant Ravidas find a place in the Guru Granth Sahib, the sacred scripture of Sikhism. They added that he was a disciple of Swami Ramanandacharya of the Vaishnava Bhakti tradition and is regarded as a contemporary and spiritual brother of Sant Kabir.
State President of the BJP Scheduled Caste Wing Balveer Ghuniyal announced that to mark Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidas Jayanti, a series of programmes including prayers, darshan and the felicitation of saints would be organised across all districts of Uttarakhand from 31 January 2026 to 7 February 2026. He said these programmes are being organised with the aim to spread the saint’s message of social harmony and human dignity among people of all sections.
Among those present on the occasion included several senior leaders and party workers, including State General Secretaries Kundan Parihar and Tarun Bansal, former MLA Deshraj, Vishal Mukhya, former minister Khajan Das, Sumer Chand Ravi, Jaipal, General Secretary Vinod Kumar Lakkha, Vice President of the SC Wing Omprakash Bhujwan, State Media Coordinator Ranjeet Singh Jakhi and Vishal Birla, along with dozens of BJP workers.
