PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun Police arrested three accused on Thursday for the murder of Arjun Sharma at Tibetan market in Dehradun on Wednesday, hours after arresting the alleged shooter and his accomplice following an encounter early on the same day. The arrested accused include the victim Arjun Sharma’s mother Beena Sharma, Vinod Uniyal and Dr Ajay Khanna of SK Memorial Hospital. The shooter and his accomplice involved in the murder arrested earlier have been identified as Pauri native brothers Raju Rana and Pankaj Rana. Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh informed the media that the murder occurred due to a property dispute. During the investigation, it was found that Khanna had purchased a plot of land near GMS Road from Beena Sharma for Rs 14 crore and had already paid Rs eight crore for it. After learning about the deal, her son Arjun Sharma obtained a court stay order on the sale which led to tension between him and his mother. It was also revealed that Beena Sharma transferred the Rs eight crore to Vinod Uniyal the very next day which angered Arjun. Police said that before the murder, the victim’s mother called his gas agency to ask the manager about his schedule. Singh further said that according to an agreement, if Beena Sharma failed to transfer the land registry, she would have to pay double the amount as penalty. However, she did not have the money and she allegedly pressurised her son to agree to the sale as he owned a 50 per cent share in the land. According to police, shooter Pankaj Rana had earlier worked as a driver for Vinod Uniyal. He was allegedly offered Rs 15 lakh to kill Arjun. After committing the murder, the two brothers changed their clothes and Pankaj even shaved his moustache to avoid identification. Police also stated that Pankaj had allegedly killed his stepfather in 1997 but was later acquitted by the court. During the early hours on Thursday, during checking in the Raipur area near Ladpur forest, one suspect opened fire at the police team. The police fired back in self-defense and hit him in the leg before arresting him and taking him to the hospital. In another incident near the Laltappar police outpost, a scooty-borne suspect tried to escape when asked to stop. He entered an abandoned factory and fired at the police team. During the encounter, police shot him in the leg and arrested him. The police recovered two country-made pistols and a Scooty from the accused. During questioning, both men confessed to their role in the murder that took place at Tibetan market, the SSP said.
