Public response to Cong protest was poor: Deepti Rawat

Dehradun, 16 Feb: BJP state general secretary Deepti Rawat Bhardwaj today termed the Congress party’s Lok Bhavan gherao programme as “aimless and directionless”, alleging that it was largely a symbolic political exercise without clarity of purpose.
Speaking at the party headquarters, Rawat claimed that if even those participating in the rally were asked about the objective of the protest, they would not be able to clearly explain it. According to her, this reflects the Congress party’s inability to communicate a defined agenda to the public.
She remarked that a party which usually gathers a few hundred supporters should introspect rather than project a marginally higher turnout as a major achievement. She asserted that the BJP’s organisational strength and public trust have been built through sustained grassroots work and public service over the years.
Rawat Bhardwaj asserted that the people of Uttarakhand support governance based on development, transparency and delivery rather than rhetoric. Referring to the state government under Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, she said work is being undertaken in areas such as infrastructure expansion, employment generation, tourism promotion, women’s welfare and social security.
The BJP General Secretary added that despite several days of preparation and publicity by the Congress, the rally did not generate the expected response. She claimed that the opposition lacks substantive issues and therefore organises such events for political visibility.
Responding to questions over a banner controversy linked to the protest, Rawat said that any display or content found to be in violation of the law is likely to invite action. If unlawful material appears on public property, the government will remove it, and in the political arena, the public will respond through democratic means, she said.
