Proposal on ‘inclusive & disaster-sensitive development’ of Mussoorie submitted to CM

By Sunil SonkarMussoorie, 16 Feb: Advocate and BJP youth leader Aryan Dev Uniyal met Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today and sought concrete initiatives for public welfare, youth-centric, and disaster-sensitive development of Mussoorie. He stated that, despite its reputation and tourism importance, Mussoorie, the “Queen of the Hills”, still faces fundamental and long-term challenges that require immediate and coordinated action.
In the memorandum, he underlined that Mussoorie is not just a tourist destination, but the livelihood of thousands of local families. Therefore, every development plan should be designed with sensitivity, inclusion, and disaster management in mind.Advocate Uniyal proposed that land be allocated with the cooperation of the Municipal Corporation and a planned residential colony developed for the economically weaker and disadvantaged. He stated that being a tourist town, land and housing are expensive, forcing low-income families to live in unsafe and temporary housing. A well-organised colony will not only provide social security but also control unplanned settlements. In order to positively channelise the youth, the long-pending demand for the construction of a mini stadium in the Bhiladhu area has also been raised prominently. He stated that the lack of sports facilities is hindering local talent from progressing. The construction of a mini stadium will promote sports like athletics, football, and cricket, and also curb drug addiction among youth.Traffic congestion has become a major problem on Mall Road, considered the lifeline of Mussoorie, and the surrounding areas. In this context, the development of planned and regulated “pocket parking” on the private land of willing citizens has been suggested. He believes this will reduce uncontrolled roadside parking and provide convenience to both local businesses and tourists.Given the increased pressure during the tourist season, he emphasised the need for a scientific traffic management plan that is implemented year-round. It calls for measures such as digital monitoring, shuttle services, demarcation of parking zones, and clear identification of emergency routes. This will provide relief to local residents and a smoother experience for tourists.Priority has also been given to the demand for prompt repair of roads damaged in recent disasters and the immediate reconstruction of the collapsed valley bridge near the Shiva temple. He stated that strengthening infrastructure in hilly areas is directly linked to public safety, and any delay in this regard could have serious consequences.Uniyal expressed confidence that under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, positive steps will be taken towards balanced, environmentally friendly, and sustainable development for Mussoorie. Local citizens and youth are also enthusiastic about these demands. People say that if the proposed plans are implemented, Mussoorie’s development model could become an example for the entire state.
