DEHRADUN, 21 Feb: The Department of Theatre and Folk Performing Arts at Doon University organized International Mother Language Day in a dignified and literary atmosphere. The objective of the programme was to create awareness about the preservation, promotion, and dissemination of rich mother tongues such as Garhwali and Kumaoni.
Vice-Chancellor of Doon University, Prof Surekha Dangwal, in her address said, “Our mother tongues are the mother of our culture. We must come forward collectively for their preservation and promotion; only then will we be able to strengthen our cultural roots.”
On this occasion, students studying Garhwali and Kumaoni presented songs, poems, and speeches in their mother tongue and shared their linguistic and cultural experiences. The presentations were emotional, impactful, and filled with cultural consciousness, deeply influencing the audience present.
Professors HC Purohit, Harsh Dobhal, Ajay Singh, Chetna Pokhariyal, Mamta Pandey, Anoop Singh, Ajit Panwar, Kailash Kandwal, and Manvendra Bartwal were present at the programme.
Rajesh Bhardwaj, Sarita Bhatt, Sarita Bhavana, Anjesh, and Vaishali Negi, along with many other students, actively participated in the event. The presence of Ajit Panwar and Kailash Kandwal further enhanced the dignity of the programme.
