Dehradun, 2 Mar: Dehradun’s Parade Grounds turned into a sea of music lovers on Sunday evening as renowned Punjabi singer-songwriter Dr Satinder Sartaaj delivered yet another mesmerising performance that kept the audience enthralled late into the night. The event, part of the city’s cultural calendar, drew thousands of residents who swayed to his soulful renditions and poetic lyrics.
Fans and admirers queued up outside the venue well before the evening. By the time the performance began, the grounds were packed with enthusiastic listeners eager to experience the magic of Sartaaj’s music. His compositions, blending spirituality with lyrical depth, created an atmosphere of enchantment and emotional connection.

Before his arrival at the programme venue at Parade Grounds, Sartaaj also reached the famous Durbar Sahib at Jhande Bazar and paid his obeisance. He also witnessed the paintings at the wall of the Gurdwara there which are globally famous.

The singer’s heartfelt numbers, including the evocative “Koi Chalda Na Chaara Re, Tere Bina Na Guzara Re,” resonated deeply with the audience, earning thunderous applause and moments of rapt silence. The venue hosted the performance as part of the 2025–26 cultural calendar, The Sartaaj Heritage Tour, adding to the city’s festive spirit. Sartaaj mentioned Dehradun several times during his performance and even rendered a song, “Sharbat Ho Gayi Aaj Sahastradhara Ve and during this song, he also mentioned Mussoorie and Kempty Fall. It may be recalled that Sahastradhara is a very popular picnic spot in Dehradun. He also sang some of his most popular songs such as ‘Sabse Mehengi Hondi Hai Masoomiyat’ and ‘Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma’.

The residents described the evening as unforgettable, with Sartaaj’s artistry reaffirming the growing appeal of Punjabi Sufi music in Uttarakhand. For Dehradun, it was not merely a concert but a celebration of cultural richness and collective joy, destined to be remembered for years to come.

It may be noted here that Sartaaj, who hails from Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district, has carved a unique niche for himself in the world of music with his blend of Sufi, folk and poetic expression. He first gained widespread recognition with songs like “Sai,” a track that established him as a powerful voice in Punjabi music and propelled him into the spotlight early in his career. Over the years he has released a series of memorable albums and singles that showcase his lyrical depth and soulful singing style, including Sartaaj, Afsaaney Sartaaj De, Rangrez-The Poet of Colours and Seasons of Sartaaj, each featuring songs that have resonated with audiences around the world. His recent works such as Hind Ki Chadar and tracks from albums like Travel Diaries and Liberation continue to draw praise for their emotional and cultural depth, reflecting his evolution as an artist.

Among Sartaaj’s remarkable achievements is a world record he created when over 5.2 million people across 20,239 educational institutions simultaneously played his tribute song “Hind Ki Chadar”. The extraordinary event, characterised by a collective spirit of devotion and historical reflection, saw 5,231,312 participants come together to render the song, which was written and performed by Sartaaj himself. The composition pays tribute to the sacrifices of Sikh history and has drawn acclaim for its poignant lyrics and universal appeal.
