Dehradun, 3 Mar: A Workshop cum Faculty development programme on “Quality Research Publication and IPR” was organised by School of Applied and Life Sciences, Uttaranchal University from 28 February to 3 March. The programme was inaugurated by Prof Dharam Buddhi (Vice Chancellor, Uttaranchal University), Prof Ajay Singh (Convenor & Dean Research, Uttaranchal University), Dr Harish Chandra (Department of Botany & Microbiology, Gurukul Kangri University, Haridwar), Dr Rakesh Bhutiani (Department of Zoology & Environmental Science, Gurukul Kangri University, Haridwar), Prof Rajesh Singh (Director, DRI Uttaranchal University) and Prof. Anita Gehlot (CEO, ACIC Uttaranchal University) by lighting the ceremonial lamp.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Ajay Singh (Convenor) in which he briefed about the objectives of the Workshop and also emphasised on inter disciplinary research to address global challenges and how the same can result in quality research publication and IPR. Prof Dharam Buddhi in his address emphasised on how such programmes can impact the skills among young researchers to excel not only in research and scientific writing but also explore how the innovative ideas can be processed into intellectual property.
On day I of the Workshop, the first technical session on research publications was delivered by Dr Rakesh Bhutiani in which he discussed different types of manuscripts including research, review, short communication and editorials. The session was followed by significant discussion on ethical guidelines to be adopted while conducting research and manuscripts competition. The second session was on different types of IPR, delivered by Dr Harish Chandra. Different case studies and recently granted patents were discussed along with key concepts involved in IPR and how inventors can proceed for technology transfer. Both the sessions were followed by an interactive session in which the queries of participants were answered by the experts.
The second day of the workshop began with another technical session on IPR. Prof Anita Gehlot provided valuable insights pertaining to eligibility criteria for innovation, process and product patents, copyrights, and trademarks. The session also emphasised the benefits associated with IPR. Another technical session on day 2 was on Quality research publication by Prof Rajesh Singh. The session provided insights into drafting, compiling, data analysis and interpretation required for quality research. The session emphasised how clarity of concept and string methodology contributes to quality research. The technical session on day two were followed by hands on training on searching journals, databases, and patents through reliable and authentic sources. The second day concluded with a special session on significance, purpose, structure and different sources of review literature by Prof Ajay Singh.
On day 3 of the workshop, in another detailed session, Prof Ajay Singh spoke about different TRLs (Technology Readiness Levels). The session again provided valuable inputs as to how a researcher can assess their invention on basis of different TRLs. The session further provided technical assessment of other scales including manufacturing, system and commercial readiness levels. Statistical analysis is a key component of research manuscripts. Dr Vikas Kumar delivered a technical session on how different statistical tools can be utilised for data analysis and interpretation. The session was followed by hands on training on practical utilisation of the statistical tools.
Day 4 of the workshop began with another session on IPR. Prof Nishesh Sharma discussed in detail about patent drafting including components of patent application, technical aspects, specifications and claims along with discussion on national and international patents. Another informative session on IPR by Dr Shivam Pandey related to pre and post grant opposition, patent infringement and patent licencing. Another key technical session was delivered by Prof Ajay Singh related to designing research methodology and report writing. Prof Rajesh Singh elaborated on different methods of data collection, data processing, minimising errors in measurement and how these contribute towards quality research. All sessions concluded with an interactive session in which participants discussed their queries with experts.
Around 80 Research Scholars & Faculty members participated.
