Dehradun, 6 Mar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Haridwar tomorrow where he is scheduled to address a massive public rally. While the rally is being seen as a marker for the preparations of the party for the state assembly elections due early next year, Shah is also scheduled to hold an important closed-door strategy meeting with top leaders of the BJP after the rally.
The meeting, described by the party as a “Toli Baithak”, will likely bring together 24 senior leaders and is being seen as a significant action towards shaping the BJP’s strategy for the upcoming 2027 Uttarakhand Assembly elections.
According to information shared by Uttarakhand BJP president Mahendra Bhatt, the meeting will take place after Shah addresses the large public gathering in Haridwar. The party leadership has termed the interaction a “Toli Baithak”, in which members of the BJP’s core group along with several other senior leaders will participate. In total, 24 prominent leaders are expected to attend the meeting with the Union Home Minister.
It may also be reminded here that while the Union Minister Amit Shah no longer is the BJP President, a post which he held in the past, he still remains the most powerful and influential leader within the party after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and calls the shots in all significant decisions of the party at the national level.
Political observers view Shah’s visit as a key organisational exercise by the BJP as the state moves gradually towards the next Assembly elections scheduled for 2027. The meeting is also significant as the Pushkar Singh Dhami government is set to complete four years in office on 23 March. Ahead of that milestone, the party leadership appears to be stepping up its political outreach as well as internal consultations.
Apart from Shah’s rally in Haridwar tomorrow, another major political event is scheduled later this month when Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to address a large public gathering in Srinagar in Garhwal on 22 March. These public meetings, along with internal party deliberations, are being viewed as part of the BJP’s broader strategy to consolidate its organisational network and strengthen its political messaging ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The Haridwar meeting will include 14 members of the BJP’s core group along with nine additional senior leaders. Among the core group members are Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, state president Mahendra Bhatt, organisation general secretary Ajay, former state president Madan Kaushik and all Members of Parliament from the party representing Uttarakhand in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Cabinet ministers Satpal Maharaj and Dhan Singh Rawat are also part of the core group.
In addition to the core group, nine other senior leaders have been invited to attend the meeting. These include three state general secretaries namely, Deepti Rawat, Kundan Parihar and Tarun Bansal. Former Chief Ministers Vijay Bahuguna and Tirath Singh Rawat will also be present. The meeting will further include four cabinet ministers of the Dhami government namely, Subodh Uniyal, Rekha Arya, Ganesh Joshi and Saurabh Bahuguna.
Speaking informally with my uttarakhand news, Bhatt shared that besides the core group members, a few other key leaders have been included in the discussion forum, which has been named the “Toli Baithak”. He stated that a total of 24 leaders will take part in the meeting with Amit Shah and that some important discussions regarding the 2027 Assembly elections are expected to take place.
Sources within the party indicate that apart from electoral strategy, organisational strengthening and booth-level mobilisation are also likely to be discussed. There may also be deliberations on the distribution of organisational responsibilities in the state as well as the possibility of a cabinet expansion in the Dhami government.
Political analysts note that Amit Shah has often used such focused meetings with state leadership to review the party’s organisational preparedness and electoral roadmap. With Uttarakhand set to face Assembly elections next year, the Haridwar meeting is being viewed as an early but crucial step in the BJP’s campaign planning. The deliberations are expected to focus on strengthening grassroots outreach, evaluating the performance of the state government and ensuring that the party enters the election cycle with a cohesive organisational strategy.
