Haridwar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah was in Haridwar today to participate in a programme organised to mark four years of the Uttarakhand government. After addressing a public gathering, a crucial core committee meeting of the BJP’s state leadership was held, which is being viewed as politically significant. The meeting took place at Hotel Godwin in Haridwar.
The meeting of the BJP’s state core committee began in Haridwar with discussions focusing on the party’s future strategy, organisational strengthening and highlighting the development work undertaken by the state government. Coming immediately after the public programme marking four years of the government, the meeting assumed considerable political importance.
Among the prominent leaders present in the core group meeting included Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, state president Mahendra Bhatt, organisation general secretary Ajaey Kumar, former state president Madan Kaushik, Cabinet Minister Satpal Maharaj and Dhan Singh Rawat.
Other leaders present included state general secretaries Deepti Rawat, Kundan Parihar and Tarun Bansal, former Chief Ministers Vijay Bahuguna and Tirath Singh Rawat, and Cabinet Ministers Subodh Uniyal, Rekha Arya, Ganesh Joshi and Saurabh Bahuguna. In total, around 24 senior leaders of the party participated in the meeting, deliberating on key organisational and governance-related matters concerning the state. It is also clear that for the time being and probably till the assembly elections, Pushkar Singh Dhami is firmly sitting in the CM’s chair and that he continues to enjoy a strong backing of the party high command.
During the meeting, Shah provided strategic guidance to the state leadership on the path to electoral success. State president and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt said that, considering the upcoming election cycle, Shah provided important guidance to the party leadership. He stated that Shah emphasised the need to focus on the satisfaction of party workers and expansion of the organisation. The objective, he said, is to address public grievances through the party’s grassroots cadre and ensure timely resolution of issues faced by citizens. According to sources, the meeting particularly focussed on discussions on the political strategy for the upcoming Assembly elections. Party leaders reviewed the current political situation in the state and discussed ways to further strengthen the organisation at every level. Particular emphasis was reportedly placed on expanding the party’s reach at the grassroots level, especially by reinforcing the booth-level structure, which is considered crucial in election management, particularly by the BJP.
Sources indicated that the leadership stressed the importance of mobilising party workers and strengthening coordination between the government and the organisation so that development initiatives could be effectively communicated to the public. The performance of the state government over the past four years was also discussed, with leaders highlighting infrastructure development, welfare schemes and governance reforms.
Bhatt further said that as part of the organisational expansion, units of various cells and departments will soon be constituted at the booth and mandal levels. These units will help make the party’s activities more effective and strengthen its presence at the grassroots level.
Discussions were also held regarding the process of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls that will begin shortly. The party plans to complete the appointment of Booth Level Agents (BLA-2) in all areas so that preparations can be aligned with the voter structure during the election process. The party will gradually intensify its activities with an electoral focus, aiming to strengthen its performance at the booth level and achieve success in future polls.
It was also decided in the meeting that all MPs and MLAs should regularly reach out to party workers and the public with a view to the 2027 Assembly elections. They have been asked to listen to the concerns of ordinary citizens and individual grievances and make efforts to resolve them.
State media in-charge Manveer Chauhan said the meeting was attended by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami along with all members of his Cabinet, state president and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt, Union Minister and Almora MP Ajay Tamta, former Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Haridwar MP and former Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, former Chief Ministers Tirath Singh Rawat and Vijay Bahuguna, MP and national media in-charge Anil Baluni, MP and national co-treasurer Naresh Bansal, MP Ajay Bhatt and Maharani Mala Rajyalakshmi Shah.
State general secretaries Kundan Parihar, Deepti Rawat and Tarun Bansal were also present, along with the presidents of the BJP’s seven frontal organisations.
Political observers believe that the core committee meeting reflects the BJP’s early preparations for the next Assembly elections in Uttarakhand. By bringing together senior leaders from both the organisational and governmental wings, the party leadership appeared keen to ensure unity and clarity in its political messaging while consolidating its electoral machinery at the grassroots level.
