Vidhan Sabha to pass a budget of Rs 1.11 lakh crore for 2026-27 PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Bharadisain The issue of corruption rocked the fifth day of the Budget session of Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha on Friday. When the house resumed its business for the day, the leader of opposition Yashpal Arya demanded a work adjournment motion under rule 310 on corruption. The speaker Ritu Khanduri ruled that the discussion will be allowed under rule 58. Initiating discussion on the subject later, the LoP Arya said that the State government is immersed neck deep in corruption. He said that the Comptroller and Audit General (CAG) has exposed corruption in Dehradun Smart City Limited, Jal Jeevan Mission and Namami Gange project. He said that the Uttarakhand High Court had asked the State government to order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in the horticulture scam which involved the director. He also alleged large-scale corruption in the construction of Sainya Dham. Arya also alleged that the High Court in 2022 had imposed a ban on sale of tea estates but the State headquarters of BJP is being constructed in Raipur on land of a tea estate. Chakrata MLA Pritam Singh said that the State government is sponsoring corruption. The house also witnessed heated exchanges of words between Pritam Singh and Vikasnagar MLA Munna Singh Chauhan on the issue of transfer of a piece of land of UJVNL to the Uttarakhand Investment and Infrastructure Development Board (UIIDB). In his response, the Parliamentary Affairs minister Subodh Uniyal said that the State government has adopted a policy of zero tolerance on corruption and for the first time IAS and IFS officers were suspended on corruption cases. On the issue of UJVNL land in Dakpatthar, the minister said that only a portion of land has been transferred from one department to another department of government. On Dehradun Smart City Project, the minster said that the selected executing agency was changed following delay in works and the process of recovery from the agency is underway. Uniyal said that the government has released a toll free number for the complaints of corruption and 90 per cent of complaints registered on it have been disposed of. Vigilance Establishment has trapped 108 people in 92 cases of corruption in the last four years, he said. The house also witnessed an engrossing debate between members of the opposition and treasury benches on the Budget 2026-27. The members of the ruling party praised the budget terming it as a vision document for the development of the State. They said that the budget has a roadmap for making Uttarakhand one of the nation’s developed States. However, Congress members termed the budget as directionless, inflationary and anti-people. The discussion on the budget was continuing at the time of filing this news report. The house is likely to pass a budget of Rs 1,11,703.21 crore for the financial year 2026-27. The Vidhan Sabha passed 11 bills during the budget session.
