DEHRADUN, 14 Mar: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami celebrated the traditional folk festival of Phool Dei with his family at his official residence here on Saturday. On the occasion, he extended greetings and best wishes to the people of the State.
The festival was celebrated at the CM’s residence with great enthusiasm and according to traditional customs. Children dressed in traditional attire visited the CM’s residence and placed flowers and rice at the doorstep, following the age-old ritual associated with the festival, while praying for the happiness and prosperity of the household. The children also sang traditional folk songs such as “Phool Dei–Chhamma Dei, Jatuke Diyala–Utuke Sai,” which form an integral part of the celebration of the festival, particularly in the hills. The CM welcomed the children warmly and presented them with gifts.
Addressing the children on the occasion, Dhami emphasised that the folk festival Phool Dei symbolises the rich folk culture, traditions and reverence for nature that are deeply embedded in the heritage of Uttarakhand. He observed that the festival marks the arrival of the spring season and conveys a message of renewed energy and the beauty of nature in human life. He also added that the festival also reminds people of the importance of expressing gratitude towards nature at all times.
The Chief Minister said that the folk culture and traditional festivals of Uttarakhand constitute an invaluable part of the State’s cultural heritage and that preserving them is a collective responsibility of society. He emphasised that such festivals should be celebrated with enthusiasm so that they are passed on to future generations and the rich folk traditions of the state remain alive.
Dhami further said that the festival of Phool Dei conveys a message of gratitude towards nature, welcomes the advent of spring and inspires people to remain connected to their roots while ensuring that future generations become aware of these invaluable traditions.
