PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun The Madan Mohan Malaviya Prachya Shodh Sansthan (MMMPSS) Rishikul, Haridwar will be developed as a global centre of the Indian knowledge tradition, ancient science, culture and modern research. A declaration in this regard was made by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami while reviewing the plans for the overall development and expansion of the MMMPSS at the State secretariat on Tuesday. He said that Uttarakhand is not only a land of faith and spirituality but also a land of sages, knowledge and scientific thinking. In the meeting, the CM directed officials to begin work on the institute soon and said that the work should be completed before the Kumbh Mela begins. The CM deputed Tourism department as the nodal department for the purpose. He directed principal secretary RK Sudhanshu to hold meetings with the secretaries of the departments concerned every fortnight to monitor the institute’s progress. He said that the special focus while developing the institute should be on preservation of heritage. The CM said that activities based on folk art from all districts of the State should also be included in this programme. In the meeting, the CM directed officials to develop a modern system of research and study at the institute based on Vedic mathematics, the Vedic science, the philosophy of the Upanishads, Indian logic and the environmental science. He stated that India has given the world important mathematical theories such as zero, the decimal system, algebra and trigonometry. He emphasized the importance of integrating the contributions of great scholars like Aryabhatta, Brahmagupta and Varahamihira into research and education. Discussions on establishment of a specialized study centre at the institute on topics related to astronomy, metallurgy, agricultural science and environmental protection was also held in the meeting. Dhami said that ancient India possessed highly developed knowledge of metallurgy, water management, organic farming and climate-based agriculture, which should be integrated with modern research and passed on to the new generation. Discussions on encouraging in-depth study of Indian branches of knowledge at the institute, as well as developing them into tourism, Ayurveda, astrology, and Yoga education were also held in the meeting. Principal secretary RK Sudhanshu, R Meenakshi Sundaram, secretary Dhiraj Garbyal, Deepak Kumar, R Rajesh Kumar, Ranjana Rajguru and vice chairperson of Haridwar-Roorkee Development Authority Sonika and additional secretary Banshidhar Tiwari attended the meeting. The Haridwar district magistrate Mayur Dixit attended the meeting virtually.
