Dehradun, 28 May: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched the ‘Solar Awareness Souvenir Booklet’ prepared by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) at the CM’s Camp Office here today. On this occasion, he stressed that the initiative is not merely the launch of a booklet but a symbol of the collective resolve to build a bright, self-reliant and green future for Uttarakhand.
Addressing those present on the occasion, Dhami observed that the world is facing climate change, energy crises and environmental challenges and that in such times solar energy is no longer just an option but a necessity for the safe future of coming generations. He also reminded that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttarakhand has achieved remarkable success in the PM Surya Ghar scheme, and that it has set an example for the country. The state has already met its initial target of 40,000 rooftop solar plants ahead of schedule and completed nearly 95 per cent of the set target. He said Uttarakhand now figures among the leading states in effective implementation of the scheme.
Highlighting the state’s achievements in this field since 2024, Dhami said the state has recorded nearly tenfold growth in solar capacity within two years, successfully installing residential rooftop solar plants of about 290 MW capacity. He described this as a historic milestone in building an energy self-reliant Uttarakhand. He praised the coordinated efforts of UPCL, UREDA, regional officers and all departments and institutions involved, calling the success a result of Team Uttarakhand’s collective commitment and dedication.
The CM said the government’s ‘Solar Kauthig’ campaign, street plays and special training programmes for officials have created widespread awareness about solar energy in the state. He appreciated the cooperation and contribution of the CEEW team. He emphasised that the government’s aim is not only to install solar plants but to make every citizen an active participant in the clean energy revolution. He added that wider use of solar energy will reduce electricity expenses for citizens, strengthen environmental protection and secure a clean, safe and green future for generations to come. Dhami expressed confidence that Uttarakhand will emerge as an inspiring model for the country in the field of renewable energy.
On the occasion, MLA Suresh Gadiya, Principal Secretary Dr R Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary Vinay Shankar Pandey, CEEW Chief Executive Officer Arunabha Ghosh, PTCUL MD Meharban Singh Bisht, UPCL MD GS Budiyal and other departmental officers were among those present.
