PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the struggle, perseverance and sacrifice of the statehood activists helped in realizing the dream of the State of Uttarakhand. He virtually addressed a programme organised to pay tributes to the statehood martyrs on the anniversary of the Mussoorie firing incident on Wednesday. Paying homage to martyrs of the Mussoorie firing incident of 1994, the CM said that the sacrifices of the statehood martyrs will always be in the memories of every Uttarakhandi. He said, “We will never forget these sacrifices. It is our responsibility to introduce the new generation to the struggle for statehood.” The CM said that women also played a significant role in the statehood movement. “Our mothers and sisters strengthened the movement with their struggle and participation,’’ he said. Dhami said that the State government has taken several important steps for the welfare of statehood activists. The State government has provided 10 per cent horizontal reservation in government jobs for statehood activists and their dependents. The CM said that the monthly pension of the families of martyrs of the statehood movement has been increased from Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,500. The pension of jailed and injured activists has been increased from Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,000 and the pension of active agitators has been increased from Rs 4,500 to Rs 5,500 per month. The pension of completely bedridden disabled Statehood activists has also been increased from Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 per month. Highlighting achievements of his government, the CM said that 30 per cent horizontal reservation has been given to women in government jobs and the State became first to implement the Uniform Civil Code. Similarly strict anti-copying act and stringent land laws were implemented. He said that in the last five years more than 34,000 youngsters have been provided with government jobs through a transparent process. Cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi, former MLA Jot Singh Gunsola and others attended the programme organised at Jhulaghar in Mussoorie.
